i have been trying to get my car to charge between 12:01am and 6:59am each day. I have the "departure time" set for 6:59am for Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat. I have also unchecked the "charge immediately" option. i have set the low rate period to be 12:01am and 6:59am. i have also checked the box for low rates.
last night i arrived home at 9:35pm with only 7 miles remaining on the battery, plugged the car in and locked the doors. Looking in the window i could see that their was a cord and a clock symbol illuminated on the dashboard so i assume that it would begin charging at 12:01am. I checked the iRemote app at about 10pm and saw that the car now had 13 miles on the battery. I awoke this morning and the iRemote app said that charging had been paused, the car still had 13 miles on the battery. at 7:30am i unlocked the car and it started charging.
can anyone help me understand what needs to happen to get the delayed charging capability to work correctly?
This is a known glitch that should be fixed in a future software update. Delayed/Low Cost charging works if you have over 20% charge on the battery. Anything less and the car charges immediately and does not stop. I believe the work around is to let it charge a bit then unplug it and re-plug it. I caution against relying on this feature at this time.
I also tried this feature and it seems once I plug it in, it charges right away regardless if the setting is set on low cost or not. I'm afraid to rely on this as an overnight charge since it doesn't seem reliable and to be doing what it's suppose to.
Delaying the charge time by setting a departure time is not working at all. Loosing this feature prevents taking advantage of low-cost, time-of-use, electricity rates. I would hope BMW has made this software fix a priority and will soon be releasing a software fix.
Just to be clear, it does not work for me at all, regardless of the state of charge.
