So I LOVE my new i3 - but it's like a hot box here in California. It's hotter than the sun in that little car!

I need to put the air conditioning on 60 degrees full power to keep the car cool which reduces the range of the car. Defeats the object of an EV!

Thinking of getting the windows tinted to reduce solar rays and UV.

I've had a couple of quotes from mobile tinters between $180 - $400 for all windows except the front windscreen.

But so many options - ceramic film - American Standard film - Johnson window film? 20% - 80% tint level?

Does anyone here have tinted windows, or any advice?

THANKS!

Got 3M 70% for all sides and back on our 2014 BEV right after we bought it (Dec 2014).
Chose 3M because that's what the most professional tint shop in the area uses.
Been very happy with the result.

If you can afford it - 3M Crystalline is the best on the market for heat rejection.

If at all possible, get a doctor's note/exemption for sun sensitivity and get the 90% crystalline for the windshield....otherwise you'll continue to "broil" while the sun is beating down from the top....

UPDATE

I booked an amazing mobile tinter to come to my house and tint the windows under a huge gazebo that he erected. Found him on Yelp. He spend over 5 hours tinting.

I paid $280 for him to use the American Standard EXCEL IRP ceramic film. Over a year later it has held up really well. Looks the same as when installed.

The car looks so much better for it too. Most i3’s in LA seem to have blacked out windows. Cools the interior and looks COOL too.
