We recently linked our Amazon Echo account to our BMW Connected account for our new i3 to allow voice command to precondition the vehicle. We can send the voice command "Ask BMW to turn on the ventilation " and receive a confirmation from Alexa that the command was successfully sent, but nothing happens in our i3. We can manually trigger the precondition event using the BMW Connected App. The voice command worked previously in our 2014 i3.
BMW employees don't seem to contribute much to this forum any longer.
I suspect the failure of Alexa commands is due to a failure of software on BMW's servers that enables this functionality. These servers have been quite unreliable for communications between the iRemote and BMW Connected apps and i3's. I'm not impressed with BMW's ability to manage remote services.
