There seems to be many many settings in the menus, but is there one for the alert that sounds (beep or beep beep) when the car is locked and unlocked.  Ability to turn down this volume to something that doesn't wake kids inside the house would be a FEATURE.

Yes, iDrive offers a choice of flashing lights, beeping horn, neither, or both when locking/unlocking.  There's no need to add more noise to the world by choosing to beep the horn when flashing the lights is very obvious and doesn't disturb anyone.

I get you, but It's a $55k 4-seater from BMW and I expect more.  Some prefer an audible alert, others a visual alert...  I'm going to try and locate the beeper and if it has an acoustic port I will add some duct tape to it!  I've used such devices on medical equipment so I should be able to recognize it.  Will post any success.

Others have been able to adjust the volume by changing the value of the parameter that controls the volume through a process called "coding".  The BimmerCode smartphone app connected to the OBD port via an OBD-WiFi dongle (Vgate iCar 2 or 3 at Amazon) supports such changes.
