I've had my 2014 i3 BEV for about a year and had ongoing issues with the chargeport locking tab not functioning correctly. It basically doesn't disengage from the charging handle enough to be able to remove it from the port. I've had it to the dealership 3 times for it and they've done all the software updates, rerouted the emergency manual release (which I've used), removed material around the tab to reduce friction, and replaced the tab itself, but it still isn't working as designed.
My question is if anyone has seen a software solution to this where it no longer locks level 1 or 2 chargers which don't require locking except for security purposes, and only lock when using a level 3 DCFC station which does require the locking tab to engage before it will begin charging. My hypothesis is with the amount of cycles the tab sees, not having to activate it every time the car is plugged in to a level 1 or 2 charger and the car doors are locked it would reduce wear on the locking tab mechanism. In my case I plug it in 2x per day, once at work and once at home, so that would be a significant reduction in cycles.
Any other non software solutions the group here has had to eliminate this issue that doesn't involve leaving your doors unlocked?
