I have been almost completely powering my house and my electric car via solar for the last two years (had a Ford Focus Electric before the i3 I recently bought).
As I have a home office and use my car for work, I take additional depreciation on the solar system beyond the federal credits so ended up doing a purchase. I'm charging at no more than 8 cents per KwH even during prime time and in California that is a big difference as we used to used to pay more than 40 cents. I did calculate I was saving 40% over my old Prius and way more versus a less efficient ICE.
Really, really need some tweaks to the charging and iRemote program asap. I had a Ford Focus electric and these were there 2.5 years ago.
1. ASAP please!!! We need notifications if your car is not plugged in. Sometimes I forget and it really sucks to wake up to a car that you cannot drive. I actually have to keep an extra car around in case this happens as I need something I can drive if mine didn't charge. My Ford sent a notification a few minutes after you arrive at your charging station and did not plug in. Also, sent a message a few minutes before you were supposed to start low cost charging.
2. Charge now function on your remote.
3. Recognition of home station that you want to low cost charge versus other stations that should charge immediately.
4. More comprehensive low cost charging windows i.e. different for the weekend. I know you are working on this but if Ford has it, how hard can it be.
Please these are urgent functionality that I understand all other electric cars have.
Need to have use of AWD for the mobility program. I know it is a dealer decision but the big reason I need an out of town car is for weekend road trips to the snow.
Also, I have heard from some dealers that i3 owners get a loaner car and let their friends use it while they keep their own I3 to drive. This means cars are often not available. How about requiring i3 owners to leave their car at the dealership when they take a loaner. That would allow us honest users to have a car when needed.
